Southwest - A Leadership Program
Southwest is a leadership and character development program for girls from 8th, 9th,10th & 11th grade based on values and human virtues to help girls make an impact in society. It is a supplementary after school program that serves students from low-income families in the city of Houston.
The high school years are an important time for building character and becoming a positive catalyst for change. Southwest offers professional and cultural seminars, as well as career and skills development presentations.
The seminars consist of a presentation and a work session that equips the young women with the confidence and skills they need to discover a sense of purpose, aspire to their personal best, and make positive contributions wherever their life’s journey takes them.
The purpose of the mentoring program is to help the students apply in practical ways what they have learned in every session, formulate goals and navigate the challenges she encounters along the way. The mentors are committed to meet with each mentee at least once every semester during the SW session.
The purpose is to teach students academic, professional and human skills that can help form learning careers. As a way to further learn from other, students of all grade levels participate in each session.
